However, Eddie, the leader of the best gang makes you and Samantha race against each other, which causes Samantha to crash her car and lose it to T.J. However, the player then defeats T.J in a race and gives the car back to Samantha. Afterwards the player defeats Eddie and a mystery car in a race to solidify his position as the best street racer in Olympic City.

Need for Speed: Underground has different racing modes for you to play –
- Circuit – It is the simplest mode, and generally a three-lap race around a given track, most races in Need for Speed: Underground are circuit races.
- Knockout – You need to knock out the other races in the track before the race ends.
- Sprint – In Need for Speed: Underground sprint is a shorter version of the circuit Mode but requires more skill.
- Drift – In drift mode, you gain points by drifting, it is the most difficult mode in Need for Speed: Underground.
- Drag Racing – It is my personal favorite, as it requires a lot of skill, manual transmission and nitrous oxide boost making it the most fun mode in Need for Speed: Underground.
