In Word, you can select one of several units of measurement for the ruler. This is useful when you’re working on a document for someone who uses a different measurement system for margins, tabs, and so on. It’s an easy setting to change whenever you need to. Switch over to the “File” tab on Word’s Ribbon. When I open Word on that machine it immediately shows me the blue area at the top of the left side ruler and the cursor is at the proper position-1' from the top of the page. I thought it was a bad normal.dot file but I have purged that and purged everything else related to Office and did a clean reinstall but the problem still appeared.

vertical ruler but this page will also show you the horizontal ruler too!! If you use Word 2007, there are 2 options of how to show ruler in Word.The first one
1. Open Word 2007 (as you may notice, now we don't have any vertical ruler and horizontal ruler)
2. Click 'View Ruler' at the top of the vertical scroll bar.

3. Once you clicked, the horizontal ruler and vertical rulers appeared.
4. To hide rulers, just click the same button again. (as in no.1)

1. Open Word 2007

5. To hide the rulers, click the same button!!
